Meghan Markle is personally reaching out to members of Congress. Not because she wants to be friends, or arrange a playdate between them and Prince Harry—who’s been kind of lonely since they moved to California. She just wants to casually advocate for paid parental leave.

According to several news outlets, the Duchess of Sussex has been cold calling both Democratic and Republican senators at odd hours of the day. And night.

“I’m in bed. I’m falling asleep. It says caller ID blocked,” said a senator who wants to remain anonymous. “Honestly… I thought it was my mother. She’s the only one who calls me at 2 in the morning.”

But it wasn’t his mother, it was the Duchess. According to the senator, Meghan didn’t introduce herself but it was very clearly her voice when she whispered: “Paid parental leeeeeave”.

“She didn’t say anything else. She just kept repeating ‘Paid parental leeeeeave’ over and over again. It was very unsettling,” the senator remembers.

And she did it again at 3 am and then again at 5 am. “I couldn’t even block her number because she has no caller ID”, the senator said while crying. “It’s the exhaustion. She did not let me sleep.”

The senator has already warned his colleagues about the Duchess’ calls. “No matter what, we have to stick together,” he said.
