It’s true. Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart are over after two years of dating. While they were both at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend to talk about Riverdale, someone overheard Cole telling a friend that he and Lili broke up (according to a US Weekly source).
And if that isn’t proof enough for you, they reportedly kept their distance the entire time and left the event separately.
But just because they’re over now, doesn’t mean that what they had wasn’t truly special. Here are 5 things these two Riverdale stars said about each other that will make you sad that it’s over.
1) On the risks of dating a co-star
When asked about the potential ramifications of dating a costar, Cole explained that their bond was simply too strong. “We legitimately could not stay away from one another,” he said in a profile with Los Angeles Times.
2) On what keeps Cole levelheaded
On Valentine’s Day in 2019 (only 5 months ago!), Cole shared a photo on Instagram of Lily with the caption “Quite actually the only thing keeping me sane is @lilireinhart.” Lily, for her part, shared a photo of her and Cole and wrote “You make me very happy. Happy Valentine’s Day, my love.”
3) On Lili’s total devotion for Cole
On August 2018, Lily wished Cole a happy birthday by posting a photo of them on Instagram with the most romantic caption ever: “It seems as if the world would still be a stranger to me, if not for you.” (It truly doesn’t get more romantic than that!) “I’m so thankful that our paths intertwined to form this beautiful adventure – Happy birthday, my love.”
4) On their on-screen romance
Back in October 2017 Cole admitted that he did not mind his frequent kissing scenes with Lili. In fact, he even joked that the writers were contractually obliged to give him as many kiss scenes as possible. “I wrote it into my contract,” he said.
5) On their initial friendship
During a cast video for Glamour in 2018–back when they were denying their romantic relationship, Lili said: “Cole is one of the smartest, the smartest person, that I’m friends with. He’s incredibly passionate about art, about photography, about acting, and I really admire that.”
