After numerous current and former staffers made allegations about the alleged “toxic culture” of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ellen sent a lengthy memo to everyone on her staff addressing the rumors.

We were able to get ahold of the original version of the letter before it was sent to the PR department and changed into a more politically correct memo.

Ellen DeGeneres letter to staff before PR edits:

Hey everybody – it’s me, Mario. Just kidding. It’s Ellen. On day one of our show, I told everyone in our first meeting (may have been our second meeting, who can remember now?) that The Ellen DeGeneres Show would be a place of happiness – no one would ever raise their voice, and everyone would get a pee break every 8 hours. Obviously, something changed, and I am disappointed to learn that the staff has been using the bathroom without permission. And for that, I blame the producers. Anyone who knows me knows it’s the opposite of what I wanted and what I hoped for our show.

I could not have the success I’ve had without all of your blood, sweat, and tears. My name is on the show, and everything we do, we do it to make me look good. Alongside Warner Bros, we began an internal investigation and we are taking steps, together, to stop all of you from trash-talking me to the media. As we’ve grown exponentially, I’ve not been able to control all of you and have relied on others to do it for me. Clearly some people have dropped the ball. That will now change and I’m committed to ensuring this does not happen again.

I’m also learning that people who work with me and for me are speaking on my behalf. That has to stop. As someone who doesn’t like hearing negative things about myself, I truly understand and have deep compassion for those who will be hearing a lot of bad stuff while being fired after the investigation is over. To think that some of you have been saying negative things about me, is awful to me.

It’s been way too long, but we’re finally addressing this issue that should have never been made public. We all have to be more mindful about the way our words and actions affect me, and I wish the issues at our show were brought up in individual therapy—and only in individual therapy. I promise to do my part in continuing to pay for your first three sessions up to 0.2% of the total cost. It’s important to me and to Warner Bros that everyone who has something to say doesn’t actually say it out loud outside a clinic.

I am so proud of the work we do and the billions of dollars I’ve made. I want everyone at home to love our show and I want everyone who makes it to stop complaining. It makes me look bad. Again, I’m so sorry if anyone didn’t realize this is not good for me. If not for COVID, I’d have done this in person, and I can’t wait to be back on our stage and see for myself who ratted me out.

Stay safe and quiet.

Love,

Ellen
