Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are back in the UK attending their final engagements before officially stepping down from senior royal duties. They met up with me to talk about what it’s been like for them to be back after everything that’s happened in the past few months.
Bea: Hi you two. Thank you for agreeing to do this with me.
Meghan: Of course.
Harry: You’re very welcome.
Bea: You guys have been through so much this year, and it’s only March.
Meghan: [laughs] Yeah…
Bea: It’s heartbreaking… I wish I could hug you right now but I won’t because, you know, coronavirus.
Harry: Uhm…
Bea: Don’t get me wrong, you seem like clean peeps but you’ve been traveling a lot.
Harry: We don’t have coronavirus.
Bea: That’s what everyone says and then they start coughing a lung and grow a mole.
Harry: That’s not—
Meghan to Harry: H… it’s okay if she doesn’t hug us. It’s fine.
Harry to Meghan: Right.
Bea: How does it feel to be back in the UK?
Meghan: [Pauses for a moment] It’s challenging… On the one hand, it’s great because this is Harry’s home… but it’s brought back all those feelings that we had before we left.
Bea: Of course.
Harry: It’s been bittersweet, for sure.
Bea: Again, I would hug you but….
[Silence]
Bea: What has been your family’s response to having you here?
Harry: My dad loves that we are home, and so does my grandmother.
Bea: Speaking of your grandmother, I interviewed her not too long ago and I was blown away by her wisdom.
Harry: Yes. She’s a remarkable woman.
Bea: She’s like Yoda. Ancient and wise.
