As you probably already know, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas welcomed a baby girl in July of this year. Though usually very private, Sophie sat down with me to discuss motherhood, parenting with Joe, and her new exciting project.
Lisa: I brought you something…
Sophie: Oh, w—
[Lisa gives Sophie a homemade banana bread]
Lisa: It’s for the baby.
Sophie: Thank—
Lisa: Or it was for the baby before I realized babies can’t eat solid food until they are at least 6 months old… but if you freeze it, it’ll probably still be good by then.
Sophie: [laughs] Thanks.
Lisa: Honestly, who knew babies don’t eat solids? Such picky creatures…
[Sophie puts the banana bread down]
Lisa: Anyway… how are you? How’s motherhood going? Is it hard? Of course it’s hard. They don’t even eat like normal humans. But besides that…? Is everything alright?
Sophie: [laughs] Y…. yes. It’s wonderful.
Lisa: Oh, good, good…. I’m also pretty good, but I don’t have a newborn at home… I don’t have anyone at home.
Sophie: Oh, well—
Lisa: I shouldn’t say that. I have my plants.
Sophie: [laughs]
Lisa: Anyway… how’s Joe handling fatherhood?
Sophie: He’s amazing. He’s… he’s really loving being a dad… he’s so sweet and loving with her and—
Lisa: That reminds me…. I also brought something for Joe!
Sophie: Oh. Okay…
[Lisa takes out an Indian wooden bamboo flute from her bag]
Lisa: I bought this on Amazon… It’s for Joe, so he can play you something soothing while you breastfeed.
[Sophie takes the flute and looks at it funny]
Lisa: Imagine yourself breastfeeding and having Joe next to you playing something soft in your ear…
Sophie: I don’t know…. I don’t think I’d like that. [laughs]
Lisa: Well don’t knock it till you’ve tried it… That’s what my professor at the Online University of Hawarts used to say… But that mentality is what made him lose his entire eyebrows for letting someone bleach them so… maybe just trust your gut.
Sophie: Is that a real University?
Lisa: You know it’s funny people keep asking me that… of course it’s a real university!
Sophie: It just sounds a lot like—
Lisa: Like Hogwarts, I know… I wish!
Sophie: [laughs]
Lisa: Let’s talk about your new show on HBO Max. You’re playing Princess Charlotte in the new animated series The Prince, right?
Sophie: Yes! I’m really excited about it.
Lisa: Well, of course you have to say that… but I want to know what the show is about, who’s in it, and if you think they’d consider giving me the role of Kate Middleton? I’ve never done voice-over…. but Prince Harry’s never been employed and yet he landed that Netflix deal so anything’s possible, right?
Sophie: [laughs] I think they already cast that role.
Lisa: What?! Oh, boggers… not everyone can be as lucky as that good-looking redhead.
Sophie: [laughs]
Lisa: Well… looks like our time is up…. Time sure flies when your publicist says you only have 7 minutes to ask questions.
