Katy Perry debuted a music video for her new song ‘Never Worn White’ while low-key overshadowing the music itself with a bigger announcement: she is pregnant! She and her fiance Orlando Bloom sat down with me to talk about the baby and why she thinks Orlando could be handling things a lot better.
Bea: Hi you two. Thanks for doing this with me.
Orlando: No problem.
Katy: Sure.
Bea: Congratulations on the baby news!
Katy: Thanks. We are so happy and excited.
Orlando: It’s a dream come true for both of us.
Bea: Ahh, I can imagine. It’s like when my best friend told me she was pregnant, I was thrilled. But she didn’t want to be pregnant. [Pauses] She cried for 8 weeks.
Katy: That’s terrible.
Bea: Oh, she’s okay now. She came around.
Katy: [Silence]
Orlando: [Silence]
Bea: Can I touch your belly?
Katy: Yeah, sure.
Bea: I was asking Orlando.
Orlando: What the crap. Why?
Bea: I read that 73% of men gain weight during their partner’s pregnancies…
Orlando: You don’t need to feel my belly for that. I can tell you right now that is absolutely true.
Bea: Ew. You have a jelly belly.
Katy to Orlando: I told you! You need to stop eating what I eat… you are getting gross.
Orlando: That’s not what she said!
Katy: [Silence]
Bea: Anyway, why did you guys keep the pregnancy a secret for so long?
Katy: This is probably the biggest thing that has ever happened to me, and I wanted to communicate it through music. I wanted it to be special.
Bea: Right. Of course.
Orlando: I told everyone I know.
