For the very first time in history, Queen Elizabeth II agreed to give an exclusive and personal interview about what’s going on with the royal family—especially with Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle.
Bea: It is such an honor to meet you, Your Majesty.
Queen Elizabeth: Yes, thank you.
Bea: Sorry I had to cancel last week, I had a urinary tract infection, you know how those things are.
Queen Elizabeth: I cannot say that I do.
Bea: You’ve never had one? You’re one lucky lady.
[Silence]
Bea: I want to tell you I have the utmost respect for you and your family.
Queen Elizabeth: I appreciate your kind words.
Bea: Especially Prince Harry. He’s sexy.
[Silence]
Bea: If you don’t mind me asking, what are your thoughts on Harry and Meghan stepping back from the royal family?
Queen Elizabeth: [Pauses for a minute] I certainly recognize the challenges they have experienced.
Bea: Of course.
Queen Elizabeth: [Pauses for another minute] But it’s hard. It’s hard for me to reconcile the idea that Harry is willing to walk away from everything that he has ever known.
Bea: I hear ya. My dog ran away last week and I was like “how can he be so dumb? He had free food here!”.
Queen Elizabeth: Harry forgets he has a duty to this family and to the Commonwealth, as well as to his new family.
Bea: Have you told him this?
Queen Elizabeth: No. He needs to figure out his own path first.
Bea: You’re like Yoda from Star Wars. Old and wise.
[Silence]
Bea: What will you do when—and if—they come back to work as full-time members of the royal family?
Queen Elizabeth: It will take a lot of patience and time to rebuild the lost trust. [Pauses] But progress often comes from small steps.
