I met Alex Rodriguez in a cafe close to his Florida home. I arrived 10 min early and he came in 5 min late, which means I spent 15 min unsure whether or not buying coffee and a piece of cheesecake before he arrived was rude or not.
I ended up buying it after he sat down at the table. I also bought him his own piece of cheesecake that he did not touch. Anyway, this is everything that we talked about during our brief interview:
Bea: Thanks for doing this with me, Alex.
Alex: Yeah, no problem.
Bea: I’m really sorry about you and Jennifer… it’s a real shame it didn’t work out between you two.
Alex: Thank you… Yeah…
Bea: I know a lot of people believed that she could do better…
Alex: [silence]
Bea: But I think that’s rude to say.
Alex: Yeah… it is.
Bea: Anyway, you must be devastated…. Like, how does one go on after having and then losing Jennifer Lopez?
Alex: [nervous laughter]
Bea: You don’t have to answer if it’s too painful.
Alex: [takes a sip of water]
Bea: In other news, according to People, TMZ and the Daily Mail, Jennifer Lopez is now dating Benjamin Affleck. How did you find out?
Alex: I’m really glad I came…
Bea: Aww, me too! Though you haven’t answered most of my questions and that’s been a bit annoying…
Alex: [silence]
Bea: Tell me something, have you been reaching out to Jennifer trying to meet with her and she’s been very short with you cuz that’s what I heard.
Alex: Well, she and I still talk… at least once a week.
Bea: You do?
Alex: Yes.
Bea: So when you call her…. it doesn’t go to voicemail?
Alex: We have businesses together, so…
Bea: Oh, so it’s just awkward business talk?
Alex: No, it’s not awkward.
Bea: I read that you called Jennifer to tell her you were upset about her and Benjamin. Was that awkward?
Alex: … that was awkward, yes.
Bea: I thought so. I have a sixth sense for this type of thing.
Alex: [silence]
Bea: Listen, I really appreciate this cuz I know you didn’t come here just to talk about Jennifer Lopez.
Alex: I didn’t come here to talk about her at all, actually… I’m here to promote—
Bea: Which is why I really appreciate it! You’re really awesome, Alex.
Alex: [silence]
Bea: Anyway, please say hi to Johnny for me… and tell him I kept my promise and did not ask you if it’s true that you cheated on her.
