Tom Brady announced he was leaving the New England Patriots in an Instagram post on Tuesday morning. I immediately got in contact with his people and he and I got together to discuss why he made this decision and what he wants for his future.

Bea: Anyway, you really shocked everyone with your announcement this morning.
Tom: Yeah… had to be done.
Bea: Yeah? You couldn’t wait a month to bring more bad news to this world?
Tom: [Silence]
Bea: Are you retiring or are you joining another team?
Tom: I’m joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Bea: [Silence]
Tom: [Silence]
Bea: What were you thinking, Thomas?
Tom: It’s the right move for me right now. And of course, this decision was not made lightly. I have been so blessed that Pats Nation—
Bea: Yeah, yeah, we all read your Instagram message.
Tom: [Silence]
Bea: It’s because they offered you a buttload of money, isn’t it?
Tom: They offered me a good amount, yes, but this is about more than just that.
Bea: I read that you are also launching a production company. Is that correct?
Tom: Yes.
Bea: Tell me about that.
Tom: It’s called 199 Productions, and it’s a multi-platform content company that will develop original content like documentaries, feature films, and tv shows.
Bea: Sounds fascinating, Thomas.
Tom: It is. It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now and right now seems like the right time, especially because—
