It’s the iconic Jennifer Aniston’s birthday today, and I had the absolute pleasure of meeting her for a quick chat on ‘The Morning Show’ set.
Lisa: Someone from your team told me it’s your birthday today.
Jennifer: Yup. [smiles]
Lisa: Well, that’s exciting. Happy birthday!… Here, [hands her a sandwich from Starbucks] I bought you a birthday sandwich.
[Jennifer grabs the sandwich]
Lisa: But do you mind sharing half with me? Before it was a birthday sandwich, it was my breakfast.
Jennifer: You can have all of it….
Lisa: Are you sure?
Jennifer: Absolutely.
Lisa: You know, I’ve always heard that you are ‘nice’, but now I really believe it.
Jennifer: [laughs]
Lisa: So… how old are you now, if you don’t mind me asking? Some women don’t like being asked their age… or their weight. But I can share that information with you also if it makes you feel more comfortable. I weigh—
Jennifer: That’s okay… I don’t need to know. I’m turning 52 today.
Lisa: Fifty-two, huh? That’s the same age as my therapist… But you two look nothing alike… I think listening to other people’s problems for a living has been rough on her.
Jennifer: [politely smiles]
Lisa: But don’t worry, I won’t ask you how you stay so beautiful because I know you get asked that question every single time you do interviews…
Jennifer: [laughs] Yes, every single time…
Lisa: It’s probably an easy question for you to answer though… since you’ve had so much practice…
Jennifer: Right.
Lisa: But no pressure. I won’t ask.
Jennifer: Great.
Lisa: Unless you want me to… just say the word.
Jennifer: [silence]
Lisa: Tell me something, do you really use that Aveeno cream that you advertise so much?
Jennifer: Yes, it’s really good!
Lisa: Yeah… but don’t they pay you millions to say that? Even if it gave you a rash you are still contractually obliged to tell me it’s great.
Jennifer: Nooo, it’s genuinely good! I’ve been using it for years.
Lisa: Do you think I could get a deal like that? I feel like I would be really good at saying that those Aveeno creams are good… for a few millions.
Jennifer: [laughs]
Lisa: [tries to imitate Jennifer:] “Aveeno creams are… soft…” [tries a different tone:] “Aveeno: the softest cream you’ll ever use”… No… [tries different tone:] “Aveeno: your new best friend that won’t give you a rash”.
Jennifer: Actually, the brand slogan is ‘Better Ingredients. Better Skincare.’
Lisa: Sure, I could also say that.
Jennifer: [silence]
Lisa: Well, I hate to cut this short… especially now that we’re talking about doing business together… but my Uber is here.
Jennifer: Oh…
Lisa: Did you know they charge you for every minute they wait for you? I learned that the hard way… but don’t worry, I’ll tell you about it next time.
Jennifer: [silence]
[Lisa gets up and starts power walking]
Lisa: Call the elevator!! [to no one in particular]
