Chrissy Teigen posted a video of herself in a swimsuit along with the caption “don’t get too trapped”, since she was posing up a storm in the name of a thirst trap. But because it’s the internet, and some people don’t have a filter, she was severely body-shamed. I got in touch with her to talk about the video she posted, and how she handles all the negativity.
This is what happened from the moment I got there:
Bea: Hi Chrissy.
Chrissy: Hi.
Bea: Thanks for having me over.
Chrissy: Who are you?
Bea: I’m Beatriz. We have an interview in about … 10 minutes. Guess I’m a little early…
Chrissy: I thought we were having a phone interview.
Bea: Well, you thought wrong.
[I let myself in. John Legend is standing in the kitchen, eating half an apple.]
Bea: Hi John.
John: Hello…
John to Chrissy: [whispering] wtf… who is she?
Chrissy to John: I think she’s here to interview me…
John to Chrissy: What do you mean ‘you think’?!
Bea: Ready, Chrissy?
Chrissy: Uh… yeah.
Bea: Do you mind if we do this near the pool?
Chrissy: Sure… not a problem. We’ll have good lightning there.
Bea: Awesome. I brought my swimsuit.
[Chrissy and I sit outside.]
Bea: When was the last time you swam in this pool?
Chrissy: Ummm…. yesterday morning.
Bea: If I had a pool, I’d for sure hire someone to clean it. Yours looks a little dirty.
Chrissy: Our pool guy hasn’t come in in six weeks. We’re all supposed to be in quarantine.
Bea: Wow. Now I’m flattered you trusted me enough to let me come into your home.
Chrissy: Well, don’t be flattered yet. I think John might be calling the police as we speak.
[Silence]
Bea: Let me ask something, why did you post that video of yourself wearing a black swimsuit? You must have known you were gonna get negative comments…
Chrissy: I get negative comments no matter what I post.
Bea: They don’t bother you?
Chrissy: Some do, but I try to remind myself that the people who write mean things are unhappy with themselves, so… it’s not really about me.
Bea: That’s so true…
Chrissy: I’m happy with my life, you know? People on the outside can say what they want, it doesn’t matter.
Bea: That’s big of you, Christine.
[Chrissy smiles]
John: Hi ladies. Do you need anything?
Chrissy: We’re okay, thanks.
Bea: Speak for yourself. Can I get a lemonade?
