Weeks of self-isolation have made Drake want to open up about what really matters in life: family. He agreed to do a phone interview with me and talk about life as a single parent and his new single.
Bea: Drakey drakey, whassup Drakey.
Drake: I’m sorry?
Bea: I thought I’d try a quick rhyme. Thanks for doing this with me.
Drake: Sure thing.
Bea: When I told my boyfriend I was gonna interview you, he nearly fainted!
Drake: Wow. He’s a dedicated fan!
Bea: No no. His blood pressure dropped because he hasn’t been eating well lately.
[Silence]
Bea: Don’t worry. He’s fine now. But we had a long talk about his eating habits.
Drake: Ok.
Bea: I saw the photos you posted of your son. He is a cutie patootie!
Drake: Yes, and he’s very smart. I miss him lots.
Bea: I thought you don’t see him often because he lives in Paris with his mom.
Drake: I was supposed to go visit this week. I had the next two weeks planned with him but because of Covid-19, I couldn’t go.
Bea: I hear ya. I was supposed to go swimming this week and I couldn’t go either.
[Silence]
Bea: Have you been self-isolating on your own?
Drake: Yeah. I’ve been staying in my place in Toronto.
Bea: By yourself?
Drake: Yup. And my butler is here, and my two maids, and the gardener’ son. His name is Michael and he’s driving me nuts.
Bea: So no…
Drake: Yeah yeah, I’m alone.
[Silence]
Drake: Anyway, my new single is dropping this week. You should check it out when it does. It’s called Toosie Slide.
Bea: That’s okay. I don’t like rap very much.
