A lot has been said about Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, throughout the years. But ever since The Crown Season 4 came out on Netflix, people seem more obsessed than ever with the love triangle between her, Diana and Charles.
Her Royal Highness was kind enough to sit down with me and have a chat about everything that’s been going on in her life, including whether or not she’s watched the popular show.
Bea: Thanks for doing this with me, Camilla.
Camilla: [nods and smiles]
Bea: I cannot tell you how excited I am about chatting with you…
Camila: [smiles] That’s lovely.
Bea: Seriously. Can’t even remember the last time I was THIS excited…
Camila: [smiles]
Bea: Actually, that’s not true. I’ve been this excited a lot before. But I am very excited.
Camila: [silence, starts to look impatient]
Bea: Alright then, let’s start with something easy to answer. Have you seen The Crown?
Camila: … I have. I’ve seen it and—
Bea: Stop. I haven’t finished Season 4 so don’t say any spoilers.
Camila: … I haven’t seen Season 4 yet.
Bea: Oh, you must! It’s sooo good.
Camila: [silence]
Bea: Though I understand why you might be hesitant to watch it… the actor that plays Charles is way more attractive than the real one… and so it could get depressing for you.
Camila: [silence]
Bea: I know everyone thinks that you’re the villain in the story but I think you’re the real victim.
Camila: Pardon?
Bea: Oh.. you didnt… [louder:] I said that I think you are the real victim.
Camila: I am certainly not—
Bea: I mean that in the best way… everyone thinks you were the mistress during Charles and Diana’s marriage…. but I think Diana was really the one in the way of true love.
Camilla: [silence]
Bea: Although if I’m being completely honest with you, I don’t get what either of you saw in Charles…
Camilla: [silence]
Bea: Other than the fact that he is the heir to the throne…. But I guess the joke’s on you because he’s 72 years old and nothing’s happened.
Camilla: [silence]
Bea: All I’m saying is that the odds aren’t looking very good for him right now… He might even, you know, kick the bucket before her.
Camilla: [looking shocked]
Bea: Not that that’s what I wish for him… of course! I hope you and him get to be Queen and King for a day o two, at least.
Camilla: [not looking any less shocked]
Bea: Let me ask you something… was your first husband really ‘okay’ with you sleeping with Charles while you two were married?
Camilla: [silence]
Bea: That’s gotta mean that he was also sleeping with other women, right?
Camilla: [gives the royal team a look]
Bea: I have to tell you I’m so honored that I get to ask you all these questions…
Camilla: I was under the impression that this interview was about my charity ‘SafeLives’.
Bea: Oh… yes, that’s what your team told me too, but I don’t have any questions about that… But keep up the good work.
Camilla’s aide: Her Royal Highness, we need to get going.
Bea: So soon? I still have more questions… how did you get the Queen to like you? Is Charles as dull as he seems on tv—
[Camilla gets up and starts walking away]
Bea: [yelling:] Thank you!!
