This year has been rough for a lot of folks, but Ana de Armas is one of the lucky ones that can confidently say 2020 has been, well, ‘not so terrible’. She’s had steady work throughout 2020 and is in a new relationship with actor and director Ben Affleck. I had the chance to sit down with her and talk about everything she’s been up to lately.
Bea: Thanks for doing this with me, Ana.
Ana: Not a problem.
Bea: I saw one of your movies last night…
Ana: Oh yeah? [smiles]
Bea: I couldn’t sleep so I started watching Knives Out… but I fell asleep after the first 10 minutes.
Ana: Oh.
Bea: But what a fun 10 minutes… had a blast.
Ana: [smiles]
Bea: I’ve seen a lot of pictures of you with Ben Affleck… but no pictures of you with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner. Are things okay between you and Jen?
Ana: Uh… yeah. She and I are good.
Bea: She’s amazing, isn’t she?
Ana: I’ve only met her a few times… but yeah, she’s great.
Bea: I love that she’s so talented and beautiful, yet so down to earth, you know? You’re lucky to know her.
Ana: [smiles]
Bea: I heard that you and Ben spent Thanksgiving together… so I guess things must be pretty serious between you two.
Ana: Yes… we live together—
Bea: Oh, so you had no choice… You had to spend Thanksgiving with him.
Ana: No… I wanted to!
Bea: Oh. Well, that’s nice of you.
Ana: [silence]
Bea: You and Ben have three-letter names… Do you ever talk about that?
Ana: Mmm… no, not really.
Bea: Really? It’d be the first thing that I’d mention if I was alone in a room with him.
Ana: [smiles]
Bea: I heard that you’re doing another movie with Daniel Craig… you’re playing a Bond girl in the new James Bond movie, correct?
Ana: Yes, correct. It’s coming out next year…
Bea: Pierce Brosnan was my favorite James Bond… Do you know Pierce?
Ana: No… I don’t think so.
Bea: I wonder what he’s like….
Ana: I… I don’t know.
Bea: He’s probably super nice, right? And generous… he’s probably generous and kind.
Ana: Sure.
Bea: Anyway… it looks like our time is up!
Ana: But I haven’t had a chance to talk about the movie I’m here to promote… Let me just quickly say it’s called Deep Water and will be in theatres next year!
Bea: Okay…. well, thanks for that.
