Nobody had a bigger Grammys night this year than Billie Eilish, who broke records while sweeping the competition in almost every category she was nominated in. The next day I sat down with her to talk about what it all meant to her and, well, things got personal.
Bea: Hi Billie. Thanks for doing this with me.
Billie: Sure.
Bea: Congratulations on winning seven Grammys last night! That’s so freaking impressive.
Billie: I won five Grammys, not seven.
Bea: No. I’m pretty sure I read that you won seven.
Billie: It was five.
Bea: Well, don’t get discouraged. Maybe next year you’ll earn seven.
Billie: …
Bea: Or not. Listen, the competition is tough.
Billie: …
Bea: But seriously though, congratulations.
Billie: Thank you.
Bea: Did you go to any after parties?
Billie: Yes, I went to the Universal Music Group’s party with my brother and his girlfriend.
Bea: You remind me of my best friend. She’s always third-wheeling like you.
Billie: His girlfriend was the one third-wheeling, actually. I was invited to the party. She was just the plus one.
Bea: Fair point.
Billie: …
Bea: Do you hate his girlfriend?
Billie: No, I like her. She’s great.
Bea: I hope she doesn’t read this interview then.
Billie: Listen, I hope no one does.
