I’m not a mother yet, but I’ve always thought that if there’s anyone doing a good job raising kids in Hollywood is Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher. So on Mother’s Day, I gave these two a call. Here’s everything that happened:
[I send Ashton a video request. Nothing happens.]
[I send Ashton a second video request. Still, nothing happens.]
[I send Ashton a third video request…]
Bea: Hello, Ashton?
Ashton: What the f— WHO’S THERE??
Bea: [Silence]
Ashton: [looks around incredulous] I swear I heard something…
Bea: [eye roll] I’m on your screen… We’re on a video call.
Ashton: Oh shit. Hello. I must have answered without realizing.
Bea: I was actually hoping I could speak with Mila…
Ashton: Uh… well…..you can try her on her phone but I doubt she’ll answer.
Bea: I just want to say ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ and ask her a few questions about the way she celebrates this day.
Ashton: Well… I doubt she’ll want to talk about that. She’s had a rough day.
Bea: Why? What happened?
Ashton: I shouldn’t tell you…. But I will. It’s too good not to share.
Bea: Okay.
Ashton: It all started this morning, before Mila and I even woke up…
Bea: Uh-huh.
Ashton: The kids, who are 5 and 3 years old, snuck in our room to surprise Mila.
Bea: Right. Right.
Ashton: We didn’t notice. We were asleep.
Bea: Yes. I got that part.
Ashton: When Mila and I woke up… we saw their present for their mom…. Well, SHE saw it.
Bea: What was it?!
Ashton: Are you ready for this…..??
Bea: YES.
Ashton: It was a drawing.
Bea: A drawing???!
Ashton: [laughs hysterically] Isn’t that hilarious??!
Bea: [Silence]
Ashton: Crazy kids. I swear….
Bea: [Silence]
Bea: This is stupid. Why was Mila upset about that?!
Ashton: The drawing was on the white wall. And the carpet. And her side of the bed.
Bea: [Silence]
Ashton: And after crying for an hour and finally calming herself down, she asked the kids what the drawing was supposed to be…
Bea: Who cares.
Ashton: They told her it said: ‘Happy Father’s Day.’
