This year might be a total dumpster fire for a lot of people but not for Katie Holmes, who is falling head-over-heels in love with her new boyfriend, New York City chef Emilio Vitolo Jr. I met up with Katie at Emilio’s famous Italian restaurant, Emilio’s Ballato, to talk about 2020 and her new romance.
Lisa: Is this going to be on the house?
Katie: [laughs] I… I can ask.
Lisa: That’s okay. I think I’m going to order a light salad regardless… Italian food doesn’t agree with me… and it’s too early to spend the rest of the day looking like I’m 6-months pregnant.
Katie: [laughs]
Lisa: But if you get pasta… I wouldn’t mind trying it… Why don’t you order the Ravioli? I could eat some ravioli.
Katie: I think I’m also going to get a salad…
Lisa: Oh, okay….
Katie: [smiles]
Lisa: So how’s it going with Emilio? You two look madly in love in every photograph…
Katie: [laughs] Things are—
Lisa: You remind me of me and my first boyfriend… holding hands everywhere we went. But that’s all we did…. hold hands. He’s gay now.
Katie: [laughs]
Lisa: So how did you two lovebirds meet? Was it love at first sight? Or did you find him incredibly irritating at first but then realized that underneath his annoying laughter he’s really sweet and kind?
Katie: [laughs] I don’t think I believe in love at first sight… but there was definitely an instant connection. He…. he’s really funny. And he has a warm nature that I really admire.
Lisa: I see that. I met him on my way to the bathroom earlier…. I asked him where it was and he gave me great directions.
Katie: [laughs]
Lisa: I’m curious… is this your first time dating someone younger than you?
Katie: Oh, yes…. All of the guys I’ve dated in the past have been older than me, for sure.
Lisa: And what’s it been like… Is it an issue between you two… is he constantly texting you? Does it bother you that he refuses to talk on the phone even to make plans?
Katie: [laughs] Not at all… To tell you the truth I don’t pay attention to the age thing. That doesn’t really matter… it’s more about how we feel about each other.
Lisa: Of course. That and a good physical connection. There’s no love without some good “night moves”.
Katie: [laughs]
Lisa: Has he met your daughter yet? ‘Cause that’s really the step that says “you’re more than a warm body to keep me happy at night”.
Katie: [laughs] No no…. But they have met. Casually… so far he’s been great with her.
Lisa: Good. That’s important… and I’m a certified psychologist by the Online University of Hawarts so I obviously know what I’m talking about.
Katie: Like the Harry Potter school…?
Lisa: No, that’s Hogwarts.
Katie: [laughs] Right.
Lisa: Do you think they forgot about our two salads? We should be done eating by now….
