I met Leonardo DiCaprio in his Los Angeles home early this morning. He’s been doing press all week for his new movie with Martin Scorsese, but because of covid, he’s been asking journalists to meet him at his place. Super convenient. For him.
Bea: Thanks for doing this with me, Leo.
Leonardo: Happy to do it.
Bea: I just wanna say I think you’re one of the best actors of all time.
Leonardo: Well, thank you. That’s a big compliment.
Bea: And I mean it! The way you get into the roles you play, and you feel everything your character is feeling is… well, mind-blowing.
Leonardo: I appreciate you saying that.
Bea: In my book, you’re almost as good as Tom Holland and Zac Efron. I don’t know if you’ve watched Zac in ‘Baywatch’ but… WOW.
Leonardo: [Silence]
Bea: Anyway, how are you? Are you still dating Camila Morrone?
Leonardo: Yes… she’s—she just had a birthday actually.
Bea: How old is she now?
Leonardo: Twenty three.
Bea: Aww, she’s growing up so fast.
Leonardo: [Silence]
Bea: What did she ask for her birthday?
Leonardo: I gave her two Chanel bags and a diamond necklace.
Bea: Holy moses…. kids these days are crazy! All I wanted when I was 23 was a good night face cream for oily skin.
Leonardo: [Silence]
Bea: And look, it worked! I’m 29 now and no oil.
Leonardo: [Silence]
Bea: Anyway, you’ve been dating Camila for almost three years now… do you think you might want to… you know… date her for another year?
Leonardo: [Silence]
Bea: I know it’s tricky because she’s approaching 25 and you don’t know what it’s like being with a woman that experienced.
Leonardo: Why don’t we move on?
Bea: Okay… do you still talk to your ex-girlfriend Gisele Bundchen?
Leonardo: Not really, no.
Bea: Is it because she’s 39 years old?
Leonardo: It’s because she’s married with kids now… and we’ve been broken up for 15 years.
Bea: Gotcha.
Leonardo: [Silence]
Bea: Well this was fun. Thanks for answering some of my questions.
Leonardo: [Silence]
Bea: And listen, if you ever want to invite me to one of those yacht parties that you do, go with your gut.
I left Leo’s home right as another journalist was coming in. It wasn’t until I got back to the office that I realized I didn’t ask about his movie, and only because my friend and co-worker, Elena, asked me what it was about.
“No idea,” I replied. “But I can tell you this, he hasn’t talked to Gisele in a very long time”.
