I met Nicki Minaj at a cafe six blocks away from her house in Beverly Hills. She was wearing a cute pink dress that I didn’t like, and I wore a jeans skirt with a white tank top. She didn’t say it, but I’m pretty sure she was struck by my pretty outfit.

Bea: Thanks for doing this with me, Nicki.

Nicki: Sure.

Bea: I gotta admit I didn’t know a lot about you when I was asked to do this interview… but everything that I learned… in the last 6 minutes… points to the fact that you’re amazing.

Nicki: Thank you. I am.

Bea: Are you pregnant? Cause you look a little….bloated.

Nicki: Yea, I am.

Bea: That’s awesome! Congratulations.

Nicki: Thank you, thank you.

Bea: You definitely have that pregnancy sweat people always talk about.

Nicki: [Smiles]

Bea: And listen, if you need to use the bathroom multiple times—as pregnant women usually do—, just go outside. I’m pretty sure this bathroom isn’t working.

Nicki: I’m okay now… but you all better fix that toilet before I need to use it.

Bea: Okay okay… but enough about the potty… tell me this, is your husband the baby’s father?

Nicki: What kind of— Of course he is.

Bea: I thought so… I tend to be very intuitive…

Nicki: [Silence]

Bea: And how are things with your hubby right now…? Is he also excited about Formula 1? Cause my boyfriend and my brother can’t stop talking about last week’s race.

Nicki: He is, actually. He likes that stuff.

Bea: I knew it… I had a feeling that aside from having served time, your husband is sweet and lovely.

Nicki: He really is…. and to tell you the truth, having him in my life… he knows me and understands me so well… and that makes all the difference in the world.

Bea: Totally.

[Silence]

Bea: Tell me something… are you still going to make music after the baby is born… or are done with your career for good?

Nicki: That’s a good question… I don’t want my child feeling like they don’t have all of my attention… I want to watch my kids grow up, take them to school, go to the parent-teacher conferences, help them with their homework—

Bea: Clean their dirty diapers, endure their tantrums, listen to other moms tell you how you’re messing everything up even though you are trying your very best but having kids is hard and your child can be a real bully sometimes…

Nicki:

Bea: That’s just what my mom used to say…

[Silence]

Bea: Can I make you a personal question…? Two years from now, where do you see… us. You and me… Do you think we could be friends in the future?
